Doctrine

Expect teaching and preaching which is thoroughly God-centered and best described by what became known as the Five Solas of the Protestant Reformation.

Sola Scriptura

Scripture alone. We believe the Bible (66 books of the Old and New Testaments) is the only inspired Word of the only true and living God. We submit to the Bible, not men, not councils, not conventions, not confessions or creeds, as our ultimate authority for all that we believe and do as individual Christians and as a local church. We reject all other supposed forms of "revelation" in addition to or instead of the inspired Scriptures.

Sola Gratia

Grace alone. Due to the rebellion and guilt of man, man deserves and has earnerd only justice from His Maker. Due to his condition of spiritual death, man can do nothing to change his legal position before God. Therefore, if any man is released from that justice, it is completely due to the purpose, pleasure, and work of God, not because of any inherit qualities or works of man.

Solus Christus

Christ alone. The requirements for salvation, justification, redemption, propitiation, atonement, adoption, etc...were all accomplished by Jesus Christ alone. He alone, as the righteous substitute for sinners, met God’s demands and satisfied God's justice with his own blood on the cross. God required nothing and no one else to fulfill His righteous demands for the salvation of His people.

Sola Fide

Faith alone. Since there is no man who is righteous in standing or can earn righteousness with his own works, justification must be done through the only One who is righteous, Jesus Christ. Therefore, salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone, with the righteousness of Christ being credited to all who trust completely in him. Furthermore, since man is spiritually dead, even the faith he exercises in Christ must be a gracious gift from God. The works of man have no part in earning justification, but will be the immediate response of all who are justified by faith.

Soli Deo Gloria

Glory to God alone. All that God has done in creation and redemption is for one preeminent purpose: His glory. He made and saves men so that man will see and enjoy and worship Him. The individual Christian life is the intentional pursuit of God's glory in all we think, say, and do. The ministry and worship of the gathered local church is deliberately designed and controlled for the glory of God alone. The consummation of all things, the eternal punishment of all unbelievers and the eternal blessing of all believers, will be carried out for the glory, worship, and praise of God alone.

Leadership

Pastor Mark

Pastor Mark was born in 1966 and raised near Staunton, Virginia. He graduated from Cedarville University in June 1988 with a BA in business management. Mark married his best friend Valerie in September 1988, and they moved to Winston-Salem. Mark owned and operated a landscaping and irrigation company for ten years until God moved the Reeds to Rosemont in September 2002 for Mark to serve as our pastor. In addition to his pastoral duties, Mark enjoys playing golf and basketball, hunting, and reading Christian biographies. Valerie has worked at Salem Baptist Christian School in Winston-Salem for 25 years, currently as Publi Relations Director. Mark and Valerie have two grown sons: Joshua, an officer in the Army, and Nathan, a graduate student in Marine Biology at Texas A&M University.

Pastor Kevin

Pastor Kevin graduated in 2007 with a BA in pastoral studies and earned his Master of Divinity degree in 2011. He married his wife Joy in 2008, and after seminary they moved to Winston-Salem from Pensacola, Florida. After finding Rosemont Baptist Church, they joined the church in 2011 and two years later the congregation approved Kevin as their first lay elder. Kevin enjoys computers, building websites, drinking coffee, and spending time with his wife. Joy was born and raised in Gray, Tennessee, and enjoys her job caring for residents as a Certified Nursing Assistant at a retirement community in Winston-Salem.

Music

You can also expect music composed of traditional and contemporary songs sung by the entire congregation as a mass choir, offered to God as our audience. His glory and pleasure are the goals of our music, not the entertainment of the people, so all music is chosen for its content first and sound second, what it says more than what it sounds like. We believe music is a wonderful tool to express our emotions to God, but those emotions should be driven by the truth, not by our instruments. We use instruments, but the instruments are used to assist and support the truth, not replace it.

Services

What should you expect if you visit with us? Expect us to be infatuated with the glory of God, and expect us to do everthing in our power to turn your attention to Him too. You can expect loving, conscientious, secure care for your infant or toddler during Sunday School, the Sunday morning worship service, and Wednesday night bible study, so you can learn about God and worship Him without distraction. And you can expect age-appropriate, Christ-centered teaching for your older children and teenagers during Sunday School. We do not offer a separate childrenʼs worship service on Sundays or Wednesdays because we want children to learn to worship with their parents where they will see and hear the gathered, unified worship of the body of Christ under the leadership of Godʼs appointed shepherds. We believe the biblical pattern is for parents to explain at home what their children witness in the worship service.
